Baby Doll Carrier

After making all those doll dresses and nappies recently, the girls have been playing with Peanut and 'Jama Dolly (our other favourite baby doll, so named because she wears (py)jamas).  All our other doll paraphernalia has also been in high demand lately.  We have a doll bed, high chair and pram.  I saw this very cute tutorial here for making a baby doll carrier, and thought it would be great fun to add to the dolly collection.

On a recent expedition to the fabric shop, the girls helped choose a couple of fabrics for the carrier.  I created a template using the pictures posted on Christine's blog, and our own doll.

Again, I used the same method outlined in the doll dress and nappy post.  I cut the template in cardboard, traced around it in pencil, directly onto the back of the fabric, then sewed around the pencil outline leaving gaps where the straps were inserted.  I trimmed the edges, clipped the curves and points, then turned it inside out.  The straps were made from quilting cotton with a light iron-on interfacing.  I turned them out the right way with my loop turner, ironed them and sewed three parallel rows of stitching down the length of the strap to strengthen them.  I then inserted the straps into the body of the carrier, and edge stitched around the whole carrier.

Finally I dug in the button bag to find four reasonably matched buttons, and added buttons and buttonholes using Christine's tutorial.

Here's the finished carrier - Jama Dolly awake ...

Jama Dolly asleep ...

Once I had the pattern worked out, the whole project took about two hours to complete, including a bit of time wasting.  It was fairly easy to make, and the girls loved it straight away.  Unfortunately I made the straps too short for it to fit Olivia, so I might have to make a second one soon.

PATTERN:

I have scanned a PDF pattern for this Baby Doll Carrier.  This pattern was drafted using the instructions and pictures from Sew Bossi's tutorial - it is not my own original creation.   If you would like me to email you a copy of the PDF, please contact me at randomcraftingadventures[at]gmail.com.
